Pediatric Dental Cleanings
Establishing healthy dental habits early on in your child’s life will help them immensely as they grow and develop. Having healthy teeth and gums contribute to our overall health in a variety of ways, including promoting healthy diets, keeping our hearts strong, and preventing illness and bacteria from entering our bodies.
What to Expect
We keep it fun and simple at Kids Connection! Our office works hard to create a welcoming environment for kids of all ages. In addition to our modern office and up-to-date dental technology, kids will love that we provide helium balloons, face painting, and snacks! From the time your child walks in the door, we are committed to making the dentist one of their favorite places to be.
During their dental cleaning, one of our caring dental hygienists will thoroughly clean your child’s teeth. We love education, so during every step of the cleaning, our hygienist will let your child know what they are doing. We use a variety of dental tools to remove plaque and tartar buildup (the tough stuff that is hard to remove with a toothbrush). After the plaque has been removed, the hygienist will rinse out the bacteria and gunk that was removed from their teeth and follow by flossing in between each tooth.
Dental X-Rays
After the cleaning is finished, one of our dental team members will take a series of x-rays. This will help the dentist note your child’s dental development and identify any issues, such as cavities or crowding. Getting x-rays at each routine visit (twice per year) helps the dentist notice if anything has changed or progressed in between appointments.
Fluoride Treatment
We highly recommend applying fluoride to your child’s teeth at their dental cleaning. Fluoride is a mineral that helps strengthen and protect the enamel from cavities and tooth decay. While some water contains fluoride, it is not enough to help protect your child’s teeth. It is simple to apply fluoride during a dental cleaning and takes just seconds! In addition, we can offer it in a variety of flavors your child will love.
Dental Sealants
If you want to take preventive steps in protecting your child’s teeth from tooth decay, an excellent way to do that is with dental sealants. Similar to a filling, a dental sealant is applied before a cavity or tooth decay has been identified. A dental sealant is a thin coat, usually made of a composite resin material. It is applied to the back of your child’s teeth, typically on the back molars. It is color-free and is simple and quick to apply.
